We thought long and hard before spending this much money for a vacuum. But, the rave reviews on MANY websites finally convinced us to buy the Miele S5281 Pisces vacuum. We had gone through several other vacuums, costing 0-0 each, all of which met with a seemingly early demise. We are definitely not hard on vacuums and probably don't run them often enough!
The Miele vacuum is everything we thought it would be and more. It is about 1/2 the weight of our old vacuum and the design of the wheels make it VERY easy to pull around. The non-electric rug brush works very well, without pulling threads out of our rugs (like our old vacuum did). The parquet twister floor brush is a delight to use and allows access to many small areas we were unable to reach with our old vacuum. Our whole-house vacuuming time has been reduced about 30% by not having to continually change to small brushes for reaching those areas.
But, the BEST thing about the Miele is how VERY quit it is. We used to have to wear hearing protection with our other vacuum. The Miele is VERY quiet, even on its highest suction setting and just a whisper on the lowest setting.
Yes, the Miele line of vacuums is expensive. But, as with most things, you get what you pay for. They have well thought out designs and are built to last. If your budget will allow, you will NOT regret purchasing one of their vacuums.
I have only used this cleaner once but was very impressed by the cleaning. I only have carpet in 3 bedrooms plus a large dressing area but, due to the price charged by professionals, I only need to do 2 more cleanings & it will be paid for---three more & I'm way ahead!
My rating for the vacuum is 4 stars but my rating for the warranty experience has been 1 star. I have been quite happy with the performance of the Dyson Slim until I had a mechanical problem with the undercarriage and pedal. Suction dropped significantly and then I couldn't put the handle back into upright position. I called the Dyson Warranty hotline and after holding for 10 minutes was able to speak to a live person to explain the problem. They issued a service authorization and gave me the contact info for a local independent vacuum service center. I dropped it off 5 weeks ago and still have no update other than that the "undercarriage assembly" is on back order with Dyson. I called Dyson and waited 10 minutes listening to the hold music. I got a ring tone that suggested that it was finally being transferred to a live customer service rep and then the line immediately went DEAD and I was disconnected by Dyson. I called back and waited 10 minutes yet again and did finally get through to a live person. She was actually friendly but could only confirm that indeed the part was on back order and they were working hard to get them in stock and shipped out to repair centers. She couldn't give me any other info other than that and could not give me an estimate as to when the dealer would receive the part for my repair. The Dyson customer service rep apologized but this still does not in any way resolve the fact that I still have been without a vacuum for 5 weeks now with no end in sight. The independent dealer says that another customer with the same model has been waiting for the exact part for a MONTH longer than I have and is still waiting too. Luckily, I'm able to borrow my neighbor's vacuum otherwise I would have had to go out to PURCHASE a replacement while continuing to wait and wait. I am very disappointed with Dyson and will reconsider if there are other manufacturers in the future that have introduced comparable machines. Dyson was a pioneer in high end vacuums and they still charge a huge price premium and so the service and warranty should reflect this. Sadly, in my experience, it has not.
Thanks for this shipment. It was fast and in great condition. Now I fixed my vacuum cleaner and probably saved a couple Franklins. Well, these belts smell when they go bad, and stuff started to reek, let me tell you. Also a roller had its plastic pieces fused,so I scraped this away and now it rolls cleanly. No need to buy the roller. So all I spent really was on the belt(s). It took a while to fix though. Thanks so much again!
i read some of the negative reviews w/ skepticism & bought this anywayDirt Devil 0213BLU Kone Cordless Rechargeable Handheld Vacuum Cleaner, Blue...it has proven my skepticism to be well-founded. perhaps the negative reviewers were comparing this to a reg vac, which is apples to oranges. for its size & the fact that it's a handheld & cordless, it works very well. we just put an addition on our house & there was a lot of sm debris to pick up daily; the only time i had trouble was when the filter got clogged w/ sheetrock dust...well that would reduce the efficiency of a full-szd vac! just banged most of the dust off the filter & reused, until it got to the point where i had to wash it...no big deal. it's very convenient, has great suction & i didn't have to drill holes in the wall for a charger plate.
Ten days in. Last week, my wife on the other end of the phone said "I don't like it, it's too hard to push on the carpet" (her first use). "What!" I thought, four figures lighter in my wallet and she doesn't like it. I got home after work and the machine was close by in the basement. I picked up the handle with the carpet head and tried it. The head glided over the carpet with no resistance, "it feels ok I said". "You have to turn it on", she said. I replied something like "ok, you mean because you now have a vacuum cleaner that actually sucks hard enough to give some resistance, you don't like it!" She must have though about this because lately she has commented on how quiet it is and how it does the furniture so well, she isn't going to give it up now.
Is it possible to give an unbiased view after spending over 00 on a vacuum cleaner. Let's just say here's my 2 cents.
- the canister is a bit heavier than I thought but no different from the old Kenmore canister.
- the machine is quiet for a vacuum cleaner but that does not mean it's quiet, i.e. some great progress has been made with appliances such as dishwashers (almost silent) but I won't hold my breathe for vacuum cleaners or hair dryers.
- the components look and feel good quality and they work well together.
- I cannot get the hang of hooking the brush and handle to the canister to stand upright when not in use. The mechanism does not work well, it takes several tries but this is small potatoes.
- as mentioned excellent suction and the auto setting can be over-ridden.
- the delivery from United Vacuums (via Amazon) beat the schedule by a couple days in excellent condition
- the switches and lights are intuitive and its easy to work controls by foot and not having to bend over.
- my wife who doesn't read manuals, read the manual and is teaching me things about it
- the compartments open and close with ease and feel sturdy
No complaints so far and we're banking on things staying that way for a while as in years, that's what we paid for.
