I had a old Kirby for years and then bought a Hover Elite rewind. I had that 3 years and the hose cracked, the cord frayed where it went into the vacuum. I decided I was not going to buy a vacuum that doesn't last. I could have bought an Dyson but after reading some customers comments, I decided to not to. This vacuum suits my needs and my budget. I have a Black Lab/Dalmatian mix dog. He sheds every week. We also have various rugs around the house. No Carpet. Consumer report said this was good on wood floors, which I have. Also, good on pet hair. But they really recommended the Hover products for suction. Consumer Reports also show that Hover were in need of repair more frequently. To me that did not make sense. I decided on this vacuum and have been very happy. Seems to be a good solid machine, that won't break easily. Wonderful on the dog hair and rugs. I like the detachable canister for the stairs. Very easy to use. I have seen complaints, that this is a heavy machine. Bull! I am 54 year old woman. I have no trouble. It is just well made. Try hauling an ancient Kirby around. I do have to empty the machine more often than the Hover, but I don't mind. Worth it.
